Committees
Bryan is a member of the Bramhall and Cheadle Hulme South Area Committee. He is also a member of the Health Scrutiny Committee and of the Appeals Panel, the Constitution Working Party and the Standards Committee. He is a member of the Pennine Care NHS Trust Joint Overview & Scrutiny Committee and a Council representative at Walthew House.
Personal Statement
Bryan has lived in Stockport since 1949 - first in Hazel Grove and later in Bramhall and Woodford. First married in 1949, Bryan has two grown-up children, Kit and Liz. After wife Joyce's death in 1977, Bryan married Pat, a local girl from Reddish.
Bryan first became interested in politics as a young student and went on to fight the General Election as a Parliamentary Candidate for Leigh in 1955 and again for Salford East in 1970. He became interested in health matters as Chairman of Cheshire County Council Health Committee and as a founder member of the North West Regional Health Authority. He was later appointed Chairman of Tameside and Glossop District Health Authority.
Bryan was the first ever Mayor of Stockport in 1974.
Outside of politics Bryan is a keen gardener who takes pride in keeping things in shape. Until a few years ago he was a keen hockey player and has recently revived an interest in golf.
