Residents across Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme and Woodford have reached breaking point after yet another morning of gridlock brought the area to a standstill. For the fourth time this year, commuters woke to paralysed roads, cancelled plans, and no clear information on when the disruption would end.
The anger is intensified by the looming scale of development planned for the area. With developers now targeting Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme and Woodford, and the Local Plan allocating a staggering 16% of Stockport’s total housing requirement to the this part of the borough over the next 15 years, locals fear the the evidence is clear that infrastructure is already stretched beyond capacity.
At the centre of the frustration lies the A555, a road quickly becoming synonymous with chaos. Years of faults, closures, breakdowns and excuses have left residents demanding accountability. Today, Peter Crossen the Conservative Councillor for Bramhall South & Woodford ward is calling for a full public inquiry into both the construction and ongoing management of the route, described by many as Greater Manchester’s most troubled road.
“Year after year we’re promised solutions, yet year after year nothing changes,”
Cllr Peter Crossen continues,
“Before this council forces thousands more homes onto Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme and Woodford, within feet of the A555, we need answers. Residents cannot be expected to shoulder more misery while the same issues go ignored.”
Cllr Crossen and Stockport Conservatives have launched a petition today calling for transparency, accountability, and action before any new development is approved and has appealed for all residents fed up with the chaos to send a message to the Council that this cannot continue.
The message from the community is clear: enough is enough. Sign my petition and demand answers!
