Mary Robinson MP and local Conservative campaigner in Norbury & Woodsmoor, Oliver Johnstone, have launched a petition alongside local residents to oppose plans to build on local greenbelt. A developer has applied for planning permission to build on greenbelt land adjacent to Stockport Rugby Club.
Despite promises during the recent Local Elections, our local greenbelt is more vulnerable than ever as Liberal Democrat-run Stockport Council has failed to put in place an effective Local Plan. This means our local greenbelt such as the land on Jacksons Lane is at the mercy of speculative housing developers.
Cheadle MP, Mary Robinson said, "Since I was elected as MP for Cheadle, I have fought consistently to protect the greenbelt - like when I led the fight against 8000 homes on greenbelt across Woodford, Cheadle Hulme and Heald Green a few years ago. Fighting the grab for our greenbelt is a cause I am passionate about and I will not allow a dithering Liberal Democrat-run Council to place yet more greenspace in jeopardy."
Local Norbury and Woodsmoor campaigner, Oliver Johnstone, said "It is all too clear that despite promising to save it just a few months ago, our greenbelt is not safe on the Liberal Democrats' watch. Mary Robinson and I believe passionately that it is local residents who should decide what land is built upon in the greenbelt, not housing developers. Stockport Council must get its act together, reject this application and put a proper Local Plan in place to secure decent housing in our area but protect our greenspaces."
Mary Robinson and your local Conservatives are standing up to protect our local greenbelt. Add your voice to the petition today and make your voice heard.
