Unfortunately, just a few short weeks ago, despite councillors such as our own Peter Crossen voting AGAINST the WGV extension development, the Lib Dem–led Stockport Council failed to properly fight the application at appeal.
This now leaves WGV residents facing the consequences of overstretched infrastructure without the doctors, dentists, and school places our area urgently needs.
Importantly, in May 2023, the Commercial Centre & shops at Woodford Garden Village was granted planning permission. This development was promised as a key part of the infrastructure required to support the expansion of Woodford. Yet, despite this, these vital shops and services have still not even been started something Conservative Councillor Peter Crossen has been campaigning on for some time.
Now that additional housing has been approved by the Planning Inspector, delivering this commercial centre is more critical than ever.
If elected, I will join forces with Cllr Crossen to demand that work begins immediately and before any further construction takes place on additional homes.
We know a “garden village” must be more than just houses. Residents should not have to drive for basic services and I will make that clear to planners and developers.
Furthermore, I will also work with Cllr Crossen to force action on the ludicrous parking situation down Verdon Roe and across the development caused by poor planning and a lack of car parking provision at the recently completed over-55s accommodation.
