Cllr Mike Hurleston and your local Conservative team have secured free parking in local district and town centres across Stockport over the Platinum Jubilee Weekend. All Council owned car parks will be free of charge following a proposal put to the Council meeting in March by the Conservative Group and which received cross-party support. The plan should see a boon for local businesses and district centres as local residents take advantage of the long weekend to commemorate an historic 70 years on the throne for Her Majesty.
Mike Hurleston, Leader of the Stockport Conservatives said, "I am delighted that the Council have implemented our proposal for free parking during the forthcoming Jubilee Weekend. We look forward to coming together as families and communities to celebrate the stunning and historic reign of our sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This proposal should encourage us all to use this opportunity to support our local shops, pubs and businesses which have struggled so much in the last couple of years. They are the backbone of our local economy and we hope this small gesture will see a bumper weekend for our local traders."
